Paul from Findlay-Evans Waterproofing introduces a recently completed commercial building project involving multiple balconies. The building, approximately 8 years old, had issues with tiles lifting and calcification coming through the joints, indicating underlying problems. The original membrane was laid flat on the slab, with screed applied over it.

Retaining Original Screeds:
Inspection of the original membrane showed it to be in reasonable order.
Small areas needed fixing, but the original screed was largely retained.
The membrane acted as a secondary barrier.
Low areas were screeded up, and outlets were fixed with new puddle flanges for proper drainage.

Installing Liquid Applied Membrane:
A new membrane was carefully detailed and installed.
Liquid Rubber membrane was used, with a fiberglass mesh inter-layer for toughness.
Thermo top Coat was applied for added robustness and durability.

Tiling and Finishing:
Balconies were tiled, with the team working alongside tilers to complete the job.

Overall Outcome:
Multiple facets of water ingress areas were successfully fixed.
The project demonstrates the importance of proper inspection, preparation, and the use of quality materials in ensuring the longevity and functionality of commercial building balconies.
