Welcome back.
Today we're going to talk about carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless, tasteless and poisonous gas, produced by incomplete burning of carbon-based fuels.
When carbon monoxide enters the body it prevents the blood from bringing oxygen to the cells, tissues and organs. You can't see it, taste it or smell it. But carbon monoxide can kill quickly without warning.
The signs to look out for are - yellow or orange flames rather than blue; soot or staining around an appliance; pilot lights frequently blowing out and increased condensation.
Good maintenance of appliances is essential.
If you think you have been exposed call the national gas emergency service; switch off all appliances and shut off the gas. Open all doors and windows and if in doubt visit your GP and tell them you may have been exposed.
