The places I visited on this adventure are remanences of the past, but not completely forgotten. My path, led me to these quite amazing locations.

Signal Ghost town:
Signal is a ghost town located on the banks of the Big Sandy River in southern Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The town was a mining center from the 1870s to 1930s. The peak population was around 800. Remnants of the town can still be seen today along with nearby Virginia City.
Signal came into existence because of silver and gold mining in the area. In 1874 the McCracken mines opened up and Signal grew up a couple years later in 1876 to 1877. During its time, the town had mills for local mines and the nearby McCracken mines. A major problem for Signal was getting freight to the isolated location. Shop owners had to make their orders 6 months in advance. At the town's heyday it had 5 stores, 3 restaurants, and 13 saloons and its own brewery. The town was mostly abandoned by 1932, but a few ranches in the area continue to this day.
Little remains of the original mines and mill still exist. Scattered ruins of mine equipment and adobe ruins of the town mark the site today. The ruins are well-preserved due to the remote location. An intact town cemetery also remains. There is a part-time caretaker of the town. The historical remnants of the town sit on Bureau of Land Management land. The area around Signal is not entirely uninhabited as there are several farms and houses nearby, and the unincorporated area of Signal is still listed as populated.

Maggie Slot Canyon:
Located less than two hours from Lake Havasu, Arizona, Maggie Slot Canyon (also known as Red Canyon) cuts through the cement-like red desert earth surrounded by saguaro’s, ocotillo, palo verde trees, and brush. Not far from the mountainous desert terrain, this trail quickly turns off the historic mining dirt roads and into the wash a dozen miles above Alamo Lake. Once in the wash, the walls gradually get taller, creating the deep, narrow slot canyon. There are several knife canyons to hike in and explore along this trail, but none come close to the awe that is Rawhide Wash. Everyone who drives this trail or hikes these canyons will talk about this hidden gem for years to come.

McGuffie Cabin:
Old cabins in remote desert areas are fascinating glimpses into our history. But the story of the McGuffie cabin may surprise you. Venice McGuffie was born in Nebraska in 1890. She moved to Arizona sometime around 1930. In the late 1930s, she bought the mine near today's cabin. Venice worked her mine, which produced gold, silver, copper, and lead. Although Venice was married four times, she worked the mines herself. In 1945 she built the cabin at the cost of $1,000. She also built the dam near the cabin. For a while, she owned and operated the Congress Cafe, now Nichols West, in the tiny town of Congress near Wickenburg. Besides being a good miner, she was apparently a pretty good cook. In October 1983, Venice died in Wickenburg at the age of 93. Different offroad and historical groups have helped maintain the cabin since her death. Please respectfully enjoy the cabin when you visit. Looking at here picture posted on the wall here made me feel sorrow, as she seemed like an amazing woman. I bet she still might have family that misses here. RIP Venus.
