Hiking to the Gries Glacier in Switzerland 4k

The journey to the Gries Glacier starts from Airolo, after the motorway exit. First you drive up the Nufenenpass and enjoy nature from the car up to the top of the pass, which by the way is very little traffic. Then you have to drive a short distance until you get to the starting point where the hike begins. The first stage is up to the Griessee dam. The hike then follows a narrow path around the Grieshorn, the hike takes about 1 hour.

Small side note: During the Little Ice Age from the 16th to the 19th century, the Gries Glacier was much larger than it is today. During this time it also overlapped the 2479 m high Griespass and reached south with a short tongue into the Italian Valle del Gries.
