Knowledge and Action - Climate Change Impacts in Asian Cities and Ways to Adapt

Описание к видео Knowledge and Action - Climate Change Impacts in Asian Cities and Ways to Adapt

Knowledge and Action gives an insight into what eight cities in India and the Philippines are doing to tackle the impacts of climate change. It covers key topics affecting many cities across Asia and beyond, including flooding, soil erosion and pollution of fresh ground water supplies with salt water.

Developing cities are particularly vulnerable to climate change, with many already feeling the impacts of rising sea levels, biodiversity collapse and increasing temperatures due to urban heat islands. The film shows how good communication, forward planning and simple actions can help communities to cope in increasingly difficult urban conditions.

The three year Asian Cities Adapt project, which drew to an end last summer brought together science and policy to support local governments in developing a local response to climate change. Working with scientists from the Indian Institute for Technology Delhi, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (Germany) and ICLEI offices in Europe, South Asia and Southeast Asia, cities focused on making the most of limited resources to come up with effective climate change adaptation strategies.
