Hello and welcome to my channel. In this video I use a piece of Tom B's firewood and turn a couple of bases for his pepper mill grinder gifts. Although the firewood was about two years old, it was still too wet to use so I experimented using a microwave oven to flash dry the wood and it actually worked pretty well. In less than 45 minutes in the kitchen I was able to drop the measured moisture content from 21% to about 11% making the turning blanks ready to use in short order.

WARNING: be very careful when using the microwave to dry your wood. If you over heat the wood it can and will catch fire. I experimented on my prototype turning by increasing the time and heat setting and eventually had it smoking and burned on the wood's interior. Watch what you are doing carefully and have a fire extinguisher and PPE near by just in case.
