If you were to describe the scene of a traditional scary movie, it might involve clowns or cornfields. Writer and director Eli Craig decided to combine those two elements, to create a new slasher movie, Clown in a Cornfield.

In this episode of ReelTalk, Ben (in the back seat of his car) interviews Eli (in Canada) about why clowns are so terrifying and perfect fodder for horror movies.

And why he needed almost 300 liters of fake blood.

He also talks to Ben about his 2010 cult classic, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, saying he’s so grateful for its place in cinematic history and reveals if there are plans for a sequel.



Clown in a Cornfield is based on a book by Adam Cesare where the mascot of a small US town, a clown called Frendo, starts killing locals. Much like Stephen King's classic Children of the Corn (1984), it includes scary scenes where Frendo emerges from a cornfield to attack a group of teens (hold on to your popcorn).

In the interview, Ben also talks to Eli about the movie’s themes of generational blame and power struggles and reveals his pick for the worse generation.



The slasher movie, which IMDB also classifies as a teen comedy, stars Katie Douglas (Ginny & Georgia), Aaron Abrams (Hannibal) and Carson MacCormac (Shazam!).



Classified R, Clown in a Cornfield will be showing in Australian cinemas from May 8.
