Systems Change for Education: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

Описание к видео Systems Change for Education: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

Welcome to this 60-minute interview organised by the Si London hub in the context of the Education Challenge the team is putting together. In this interview, we are delighted to have Carl Gombrich with us, who is going to share his knowledge and expertise about the interdisciplinary perspective to education and what is its relevance in the pursuit of systems change.

Context

It is safe to say that education is facing a sustainability crisis: what worked in the past is no longer going to work in the future. This crisis in education is no longer something imminent, it is now with us.

Because we understand that the nature of the education system we have is a complex one, using the same old approaches to tackle the current challenges we face in the XXI century is not enough. That's why the Si London hub developed this 5-month series called "Si Education Challenge", a project that aims to bring to the surface discussions, workshops and thought-provoking conversations to challenge the way we look at the world around us and propose different ways of looking at this issue.

Building up from our previous session, where we worked on mapping the current challenges we have in our education system and identifying leverage points where we might intervene to shift the system's dynamic, this session is going to highlight the interdisciplinary and interrelated component of education when thinking about system change and transformation.

About Carl Gombrich

Carl is the Academic Lead and part of the founding team building a new, interdisciplinary university, the LIS: London Interdisciplinary School.

He is experienced in higher education leadership, innovation and capacity building, especially with respect to interdisciplinary courses and interdisciplinarity and has lead, for 8+ years, the team who created, designed, implemented and developed the game-changing Arts and Sciences BASc degree at UCL.

About the Education Challenge

This event is part of the Si London hub's Education Challenge series a 5-month journey where we will be exploring, discussing and applying Si tools to how we may address the complex challenge of making our education systems relevant for the 21st century.

This series of events - including interviews and workshops - will work to bring together the many diverse actors across the education system to exchange and ideas on how we might co-create a different system - partially focused on the UK.
