10 Gallon Stocking Ideas! - Beginner-Friendly Fish For 10 Gallon Tanks

Welcome to my channel! Today, I'm sharing some stocking recommendations for 10-gallon aquariums, a popular choice among fish keepers. I've personally kept all these species and have direct experience with each recommendation.

Betta Fish
Betta fish are a classic choice for a 10-gallon tank. They are visually stunning, easy to keep, and entertaining to watch. With a wide range of colors and fin shapes, you can find the perfect Betta for your tank. Betta splendens thrive in a variety of water conditions, making them suitable for beginners. While wild type and alien hybrid Bettas may need more specific water parameters, most Betta fish will do well in a 10-gallon tank.

Neon Tetras
Neon tetras are another great option, though some people recommend slightly larger tanks. In my experience, they are fine in a 10-gallon long tank. They are relatively inactive, mostly bimbling around the tank. Neon tetras prefer slightly softer water and a temperature range of 70-77°F. I recommend keeping 6-8 neon tetras in a 10-gallon tank for the best results.

Guppies
Guppies are colorful and lively fish that can add a lot of vibrancy to your tank. They come in a variety of colors and patterns, but finding stable guppy lines can be challenging. I suggest opting for hardy mutt guppies if you have trouble with fancy guppies. In a 10-gallon tank, you can keep up to 10 male guppies or set up a breeding tank with one male and 2-4 females.

Honey Gourami
Honey gouramis are bright yellow and make a striking addition to planted tanks. They are peaceful and hardy, making them ideal for beginners. Honey gouramis thrive in fluctuating water parameters and can live comfortably in a 10-gallon tank. You can keep 1-3 honey gouramis in your tank without any issues.

Chili Rasboras
Chili rasboras are tiny fish that max out at around an inch. They are easy to keep and often display shoaling behavior. They prefer softer water and are more active at higher temperatures. A 10-gallon long tank can house 10-20 chili rasboras, but they can be expensive due to their popularity.

Cherry Shrimp
Cherry shrimp, or any type of neocaridina shrimp, are a fantastic addition to any tank. They are entertaining to watch and easy to breed. Cherry shrimp are hardy and come in a range of colors. They thrive in both rectangle and cube tanks. With their low bioload, you can keep a large number of cherry shrimp in a 10-gallon tank.

Finally, although I don't have direct experience with rice fish yet, they seem to be a hardy and colorful option for your tank. Thanks for watching, and I hope these recommendations help you choose the perfect fish for your 10-gallon aquarium. Have a great day!
