USA indicated that trade negotiations with India are advancing with “a lot of positive developments”. A senior White House official told ANI after recent discussions between the two countries. While Washington is pursuing a reciprocal trade agreement with New Delhi, Russian oil remains “an issue”. The official said, talks could yield results “before the end of the year”, while Russian Oil issue can wait. With Trump's close associate Sergio Gor appointed as Ambassador to India, Trump faces another diplomatic test. US concerned over Indian tariffs on American goods, particularly motorcycles and agricultural products. Earlier, the bilateral agreement came to a halt after stark disagreements particularly in agriculture. While US wanted access to India’s automobiles & agriculture market, India sought preferential status & increased access to US tech. Acknowledgement of progress comes after years of stop-start negotiations between Washington & New Delhi. Previous attempts at comprehensive trade agreements stalled over disagreements on tariffs, data localisation, & e-commerce rules.
