Grain spawn is fundamental to growing mushrooms. In this video we go through how to make high quality mushroom grain spawn from scratch. Inoculation and Colonization
To inoculate the grain, inject with a liquid culture or spore syringe through the injection port. Allow your grain to colonize at room temperature (60 – 75 degrees) away from direct sunlight. After 7-10 days, your mycelium should start to take hold. When the mycelium is well established and has grown about 2-4 inches, carefully break up the grain and shake it without opening the jar or bag. Incorporating the colonized grain evenly into the uncolonized grain will significantly speed up colonization. When the grain is completely white with mycelium it is ready to use. The full process can take weeks to months depending on the species and vigor of your culture.
