Considered by most Aston Martin aficionados to be the last “Real Aston Martin” the DB6 was launched at the London and Paris Motor Shows in 1965, updating the previous model, the DB5.The new car had a wheelbase 4" longer than before, resulting in an extensive restyle with more-raked windscreen, raised roofline and reshaped rear quarter windows. Opening front quarter lights made a re-appearance but the major change was at the rear where a Kamm tail - named after its inventor, the German automobile engineer, Professor Wunibald Kamm improved the aerodynamics. “The most obvious difference from the DB5 is the anti-lift tail end being most beautiful to the eyes; the DB6 now became a genuine four-seater.” Although apparently a bigger car than its predecessors, the weight of the new model was in fact only fractionally increased.

1969 saw the introduction of the DB6 Mark II Volante; the main distinguishable features of the MkII were the flared wheel arches and wire wheels as fitted to the DBS; further features included power-assisted steering. The power output on triple SU carburettors was 282bhp, rising to 325bhp in Vantage specification; our car has thus been fitted in period with correct 45 DCOE Weber carburettors also the correct modified camshaft & timing complete the picture together with the ZF five-speed manual gearbox – the perfect combination.

3771 is one of only 17 Mk II Volante's built to this specification; supplied new on the 17th November 1970 to C Adams, initially of Chelmsford, Essex and latterly Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire. The second keeper a Mr J.W Leeson of Ludlow, Shropshire acquired the Aston Martin in 1975. The last registered keeper was Lady Alice Pilkington, wife of Sir Antony, the renowned glass magnate & classic car collector who acquired the Volante on 5th June 1979 and was its custodian for some 33 years! A comprehensive chassis file that accompanies our car details the maintenance carried out since 1972. From November 1972 to 1974, the motorcar was serviced by Aston Martin Works Service at Newport Pagnell, the 35,000 mile service being completed in August 1974. During Sir Antony’s ownership, the motorcar has been maintained by factory service agents & latterly Aston Martin Service Specialists. MOT’s dating back to 1973 (some 30+ certificates) substantiate the current speedometer reading of 58,275 miles from new. Historical tax disc’s dating from 1996 are on file & an original driver’s instruction handbook and the original factory workshop manual complete the dossier & of course the motorcar comes complete with its original toolkit & jack.
