The Story of Sting & The Black Scorpion

After Sting won the World Heavyweight Championship in 1990, one of the first opponents he would face was The Black Scorpion. The Black Scorpion was a mysterious superstar who hid his identity from both the fans and the Stinger, but he said he and Sting go way back. Clues were left for both Sting and the fans to solve, with red herrings being thrown in that suggested The Black Scorpion could be the Ultimate Warrior.

In reality, booker Ole Anderson had no idea how the story of the Black Scorpion would play out. Initial plans fell through when the man hired to play the character backed out, and the gimmick itself would develop into something much more comical and cartoony in comparison to how it began. At Starrcade 1990, Sting would reveal the identity of the Black Scorpion after winning a cage match, and the storyline was dropped immediately afterward.
