Playtime plays the Music of Henry Threadgill

This is something of a bucket list project for Playtime drummer Tom Bancroft - who has loved Henry Threadgill's amazing compositions since the 1980's. Threadgill is one of the most important American Composers of the last century - his music is a searing, vivid, blues-soaked mixture of jazz, ragtime and the avant-garde composed and performed with an incredible depth of intent and rigour.
Threadgill was a founder member of the AACM in Chicago and has had an stellar career starting with the trio AIR, and then his two drummer seven piece Septett in the 1980\s, through a larger ensemble the Very Very Circus and then latterly a smaller group Zooid. Thursdays concert will focus mainly on the amazing series of albums he made in the 1980's with his Septett including: You Know the Number; Rag,Bush and All; Easily Slip Into Another World; Just the Facts and Pass the Bucket - with 6 tunes from this period.
In order to perform this music there will be a very special ensemble featuring superb guest line up of Robert Henderson (trumpet), Anoushka Nanguy (trombone and vocals), and Chun-Wei Kang (drums) along with Playtime regulars Martin Kershaw (sax), Graeme Stephen (guitar), Mario Caribé (bass) and Tom Bancroft (drums).

Playtime are a collective of Scottish Jazz musicians who host regular guests from the amazing Scottish jazz and improvised music scenes to celebrate the amazing musicians on the scene and the joy of making independent, underground, creative, and experimental music in front of a live audience. You can catch their concerts in person or by live/on catch up livestream on this channel.
