Obsession Blues (Michael McDonald) Bass Cover

Today I needed to blow off some steam. This angry, gritty blues by Michael McDonald did the trick.

Produced by Tommy Sims, "Blue Obsession" is something of a hidden gem in McDonald's catalogue. Far removed from his work with the Doobie Brothers and his smooth, polished solo hits, the album exposes a grittier, more raw and organic side to the blue eyed soul legend.

This track, written by McDonald and his steady sideman of 30 years, ‪@berniechiaravalle‬, is a great example - and a stellar display of rhythm section power. The groove shared by producer/bassist Tommy Sims and Nashville session ace Dan Needham is as deep as you can get it. Large shoes to fill, but I have to try.

I tuned my 1974 Precision down a half step for this G minor blues, and played quite hard, driving the Avalon U5 a little bit.
