In this powerful and deeply moving testimonial, Simeria shares her journey of loss, accountability, healing, and transformation, and how Prevention Links played a critical role in helping her rebuild her life.
As a young woman, Simeria struggled with substance use, which ultimately led to incarceration. While in prison, she experienced profound loss, including the passing of her mother. During this time, she was placed in solitary confinement, a period that, while incredibly difficult, became a space for grief, reflection, and reconnection with herself. It was there that Simeria began the internal work of becoming the woman and mother she wanted to be for her children.
After her release, Simeria faced the challenges of reentry, rebuilding relationships, and finding stability. Her children forgave her, and she began searching for a true path forward.
That path led her to the Pathways to Recovery paid internship program at @PreventionLinksNJ.
Through Pathways to Recovery, Simeria gained support, purpose, and opportunity. The program helped her reenter the workforce, rebuild confidence, and translate lived experience into leadership. Simeria later became a staff member at Prevention Links, continuing the cycle of recovery by supporting others on their own journeys.
Although she no longer works at Prevention Links, Simeria remains deeply grateful for the organization and the role it played in her life. In this video, she shares her appreciation for the support she received and affirms the lasting impact of Pathways to Recovery in helping her find her true pathway forward.
Simeria’s story is a powerful testament to resilience, second chances, and the life-changing impact of recovery-focused workforce development.
