My Pi-top CEED finally came in! Today we are going to see how PI-TOP's first attempt at a RPI desktop turned out. I bought this for $134 + shipping in February and have been anxiously awaiting its arrival since then. For the most part the Pi-top team stayed on track and I am happy with how long it took the final product to arrive.

For a first production run the CEED turned out great. There were definitely some rough edges but for the most part I was pleasantly surprised with its overall quality. The outer casing was light yet sturdy and its slimline design is something to show off. The LCD was one of the better panes I have ever seen, viewing angles were good, the picture was sharp, and color production was about average. The inner compartment is the heart of this little computer, it offers plenty of space to add additional boards for prototyping but I do wish it was a few mm thicker as the acrylic panel tends to get caught on the RPI's cables coming from its GPIO header.

I did encounter a few minor issues during my initial time with the CEED, Plugging in USB devices to the RPI causes the board to slide back into the CEED's casing. The mounting magnets come out of their plastic feet. Finally, as mentioned above, the board compartment needs to be a few millimeters thicker.

In all, for a product from a first production run the Pi-top CEED is a great piece of tech for the aspiring programmer, engineer, tinkerer, ect.... and a great learning tool. However, the pi-top CEED still has some work to do in order to perfect the design and I look forward to seeing what improvements they make to the CEED in the future.
