The locals were afraid of these and wanted them removed....we wanted to hive them, so dug them out and captured the queen in a screen wire cage. We wanted to put them in a modified Langstroth (20 frames) and hoped that we could keep them from absconding by caging the queen. They were really new, had no honey or brood yet. Notice that some of the student beekeepers had no protection...scutella wasn't agressive if there was no honey.
