Dreams are divided into seven types of sleep. Lucid dreams occur when the dreamer becomes aware of their dream and may even gain some control over the dream. They are often vivid and can be influenced consciously. They are believed to happen during the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) stage of sleep. Disturbing dreams that frequently evoke fear, anxiety, or distress. Nightmares typically occur during REM sleep and are usually remembered upon waking. They may be caused by stress, trauma, or certain medications. Dreams that repeat themselves with similar themes, images, or storylines. They may indicate unresolved issues or deep psychological concerns.
High levels of stress, anxiety, or emotional turmoil can trigger nightmares. This includes worries about work, relationships, or life changes. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a common cause of nightmares, especially after experiencing or witnessing traumatic events. These nightmares often replay aspects of the trauma. Conditions like sleep apnea, insomnia, or REM sleep behavior disorder can increase the likelihood of nightmares.
