Wiring NPN Sensor to PLC

Описание к видео Wiring NPN Sensor to PLC

We will show the wiring of an NPN sensor into a PLC. The magnetic pickup sensor is from Dart Controls. Here is a link for the specifications.

Wiring a three-wire DC sensor is a matter of determining what kind of output that you have. The two types are NPN and PNP.
NPN is referred to sinking the load or negative switching.
PNP is referred to sourcing the load or positive switching.
In the video we wire up a NPN sensor. The load for the proximity sensor is the input of the PLC. We switch the load to the negative side, so that means that the common on the PLC sits at +24VDC.
NPN sensors have three wires:
Brown / Red - +24VDC
Black / White - Switching Wire
Blue / Black - 0VDC
In our case the PLC load appears between the input point (White) and common (Red). The Black is connected to 0VDC.
In our case this sensor is a NPN open collector with a pull up resistor. We are wiring this up as an NPN sensor but you could also wire this up as a PNP without doing any damage to the sensor.
NOTE: Do not mix NPN and PNP sensors on the same common of the PLC inputs. This will create a short across your power supply.
