WordPress Analytics Using The WP Statistics Plugin - Not Google Analytics | WP Learning Lab

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to collect your blog stats using a WordPress plugin called WP Statistics.

This is one of the great web analytics tools available to WordPress users. One thing you'll note right away is that this plugin runs separate from Google Analytics. So you do not need a Google account to use this plugin or click site analytics data.

First, let's install the plugin. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New.

On the next page type "WP Statistics" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left.

Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed.

You will now have a new menu item under settings on the left-hand WordPress menu. Click on it.

You will start seeing WordPress analytics immediately. The plugin tracks real-time analytics of the public facing website and the admin area, so you will immediately see a visit tracked in the plugin. It's tracking you in the admin area.

How to add analytics to WordPress is just that easy. If you come back to the plugin dashboard in a few days you will see a lot of WordPress site information displayed since it will be doing WordPress data gathering constantly.

With this plugin you will also see WordPress site tracking data in the WordPress dashboard. If you click on the Screen Options button in the top right corner in the dashboard you can pick which WordPress site statistics information you want to display in the dashboard.

The biggest draw backs of this plugin compared to Google Analytics is that all the data this plugin collects will go into your site's database which will eventually make the database very big and slow.

And there is simply less website tracking data then you get via Google Analytics. This plugin is great, but if you are serious about track people on website, then you should look link Google Analytics as well.

That's all there is to installing analytics on WordPress. I hope this information helps you! If you have any questions leave a comment below or ping me @WPLearningLab on Twitter.
