“How To” Draw Dangles Letters Series - #3 Patterns.

In this video you’ll learn about drawing patterns and designs that go inside of the letters themselves. Once again this is super simple, creative and fun. Every decision you make about what pattern and/or design to use needs to be based on how much space you have to work with. If you are using big chunky letters then it will be up to your heart’s desire but the smaller the width the more you have to take that into consideration when deciding what patterns and/or images you will use. If you have either no or almost no width then you might need to either leave it as is, make it a solid color, or possible add a pattern such as dots along the outside of the letter.

As with the embellishments and most other considerations some of your choices should be determined by the basic style and emotion you are wanting to evoke. The patterns help in creating the complete image, whether it is happy, whimsical, themed, masculine, feminine, and just about everything else. So I urge you to have lots of fun when deciding on your patterns and images as that will definitely show on your finished product and will have quite a bit of weight on how people view your image. Do you want something colorful and youthful, possibly a wedding theme, or maybe an island vacation theme? Every part of the dangles process contributes to the overall feeling however I do think that the patterns and/or little images have a definite impact.

If you are learning Dangle Lettering just for fun, art therapy, relaxation, as well as many other reasons let your emotions and desires be your guide. If you are watching this series to learn how to create for a theme, occasion, holiday, etc. the above applies as well but you will also want to incorporate some targeted elements too so a bit of pre-planning might be quite helpful.
