Bed bugs are not able to climb smooth surfaces. Place packaging tape around the side of your mattress cover and they will not be able to climb up to your mattress where you are sleeping. Here I tried my best to convince one to climb up the side of my mattress, as you can see it doesnt even want to try and when it tries it cannot climb onto the tape! Interesting they can climb up the sticky portion, I've watched them do it with difficulty. They cannot climb up the smooth side.

I tried bed bug covers, heat, insecticides, vacuum cleaner, steam iron, everything you can imagine. Heat was effective for small rooms but very inconvenient and potentially unsafe. Heat did not work in large rooms. This will stop you getting bitten during your sleep, none of the other methods can guarantee that.

In the end parcel tape eliminated the problem for good. Every night you walk around the bed and see them lined up against the edge of the tape. You kill them and go back to sleep. Over time their numbers dwindle and eventually they disappear. Keep the tape on your mattress cover for at least 6 months after you think they're all gone, using new tape whenever you change the mattress cover. You can put the tape on the legs of the bed as well and the headboards.

This is the cheapest and most effective way to get rid of them without hiring an extinguisher. You will sleep knowing that they cannot reach you - that is a huge psychological relief. After 2 mins of work, they are no longer able to reach you. No other method can do that.
