About the Project:

The National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC)** at Lothal is a *first-of-its-kind mega museum* that aims to showcase *India’s ancient maritime trade, naval legacy, and coastal heritage* across centuries — from the Indus Valley Civilization to modern naval achievements.

Key Highlights:

🛶 Reconstruction of Lothal Port:** One of the world’s earliest known docks from the Indus Valley Civilization will be recreated.

🏛️ National Maritime Museum:** A state-of-the-art building with digital galleries, immersive experiences, and historic exhibits.

🚢 Naval Gallery: Featuring the evolution of Indian naval power including replicas of warships, submarines, and maritime defense technology.

🌐 International Collaboration: The project is being developed with technical support from **Portugal**, drawing inspiration from **Lisbon’s Maritime Museum**.

🧭 Coastal States Pavilions:** All Indian coastal states will have their own dedicated sections to showcase local marine traditions, ports, fisheries, and seafaring communities.

🎥 4D Theatres, VR Tours & Interactive Exhibits:** For an engaging and educational visitor experience.

Why Lothal?

Lothal was one of the most prominent cities of the Indus Valley Civilization and **India's oldest known dockyard**, dating back over 4,000 years. Choosing Lothal anchors the museum in a historically significant maritime site.
