Bihar Electoral Roll Revision: 'Trust Deficit Between...' Supreme Court Slams EC | Bihar SIR Hearing

SC is reviewing concerns about potential voter disenfranchisement in Bihar electoral roll revision. Court highlighted a 'trust deficit' between Election Commission and the opposition addressing arguments about excluded voters and document requirements. Supreme Court warns it might intervene if mass exclusion is proven, with the final roll due September 30. SC reiterated that it can set aside the results of the entire Special Intensive Revision of electoral bonds in Bihar in as late as September-if its illegality is established. However, SC backed EC's stand that Aadhaar card isn't conclusive proof of citizenship stressing it must be independently verified. SC also said, the first question is to decide whether ECI had the power to carry out the verification exercise. Petitioners argued that EC's revision process would lead to large-scale exclusion of voters.
