Making some throwing knives

Описание к видео Making some throwing knives

I made a couple of simple no-spin throwing knives for my sister.

The first was 1095 welded to a 1018 handle in an attempt to cheap out. My TIG welder was giving me grief (which led to my quitting for a few weeks and building the TIG Pulser add-on - See my other videos for that one) so I made the second and third (several weeks later) out of straight 1095. The material I bought comes "unannealed", which basically means you get whatever you get as far as hardening. In my case it arrived relatively hard and brittle. I attempted to harden and temper the third blade. It seems to have succeeded but I'm no expert.

I can't say the project was "easy" because I didn't have the proper tools. Lots and lots of sanding, and I found it very difficult to put a proper grind on the edge. It was fun though, and I'll probably try to make a much more advanced blade sometime. I still have 3 feet of 1095 left...
