Vemork Power Plant has a special place in Norwegian history for several reasons. It was, when it opened in 1911, the world´s largest power plant, but it also played a main role in the most famous sabotage operation in Norway during World War 2, stopping the Germans from getting heavy water to produce the atomic bomb. Today it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Center in Rjukan.
