PROJECT STEPS

1. You are a marketing assistant at Home Workshop, a home improvement retail chain with headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Your supervisor, Mirko Brauer, has created an Excel workbook to review the performance of new stores and the company's online marketing. He asks you to add charts and conditional formatting to illustrate the data and trends.
Go to the New Stores worksheet. To compare the new store totals (the range F6:F10), add Conditional Formatting with Gradient Fill Orange Data Bars.
2. Edit the data bar conditional formatting rule to set 4,000,000 as the maximum number for the longest data bar so that the data bars do not overlap the values.
3. Mirko asks you to indicate whether each store met or missed its targeted sales goal for each quarter. In the range F15:F19, add Win/Loss sparklines based on the data in the range B15:E19. Apply the Gold, Accent 1 sparkline color (5th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette) to use a worksheet color for the positive values.
4. Mirko wants you to compare the performance of the first two stores. Create a Line with Markers chart based on the quarterly sales for the Canton and Greenville stores (the range A5:E7). Enter Quarterly Revenue Comparison as the chart title, and then resize and reposition the chart so that it covers the range A22:F35.
5. Modify the Quarterly Revenue Comparison chart to make it easier to interpret. Move the legend to the right, and then change the fill color of the data markers on both lines to Coral, Accent 6 (10th column, 1st row in the Theme Colors palette). Add Primary Major Vertical gridlines to more clearly show the division of one quarter to the next.
6. Mirko asks you to compare the quarterly sales for each store. Create a 2-D Clustered Column chart comparing sales data for each quarter and store (the range A5:E10). Enter Quarterly Sales by Store as the chart title, and then resize and reposition the chart so that it covers the range H4:M20.
7. Modify the Quarterly Sales by Store chart to consolidate the data. Change the chart to a 2-D Stacked Column chart. Add a data table with legend keys to show the sales data, and then remove the legend since the data table identifies the data series.
8. Mirko wants you to focus on the Q4 sales data for each store. Create a 2-D Pie chart based on the Q4 sales (the range E5:E10) for each store (the range A5:A10). Enter Quarter 4 Sales as the chart title, and then resize and reposition the chart so that it covers the range H22:M35.
9. Modify the Quarter 4 Sales chart to include details about what it represents. Add data labels in the Inside End position that contain only percentages.
10. Go to the Market Analysis worksheet. Mirko already created a scatter chart to show the relationship between website contacts and sales. He asks you to create a similar chart for social media. Create a Scatter chart that shows the relationship between social media contacts and sales (the range C5:D17). Enter Social Media Contacts and Sales as the chart title, and then resize and reposition the chart so that it covers the range F18:L31.
11. Modify the Social Media Contacts and Sales chart to coordinate with the other scatter chart. Change the minimum bound of the horizontal axis to 4000.0. Add a Linear trendline to show the general direction of the data series. Change the chart style to Style 4.
12. Mirko also asks you to create a chart that tracks the gains and losses in online traffic. Create a Waterfall chart based on the month and gain/loss values in the range A20:B34. Enter Gains and Losses in Online Traffic as the chart title, and then move the chart to a new sheet, using Monthly Traffic as the worksheet name.
13. Go to the Monthly Traffic worksheet. Change the chart colors to Colorful Palette 4 to increase the contrast between the data series. Apply an 11-point font size to the data labels to make them easier to read.
14. Move the Monthly Traffic worksheet so it appears as the last worksheet in the workbook.
Your workbook should look like the Final Figures on the following pages. Save your changes, close the workbook, and then exit Excel. Follow the directions on the website to submit your completed project.
