Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has revealed that every employee of the Power Division and power generation companies is getting free electricity worth Rs 6,000 per month.

Talking to journalists in Islamabad, Federal Minister Owais Leghari said that due to the cases, the Power Division and power generation companies cannot stop providing free electricity to employees. He has spoken to the Attorney General’s Office to get the cases settled soon so that the free electricity can be stopped.

He said that a proposal is under consideration to end free electricity and increase the salaries of employees. In addition, they are planning to reduce the price of the excess electricity that is not being used and provide it to the consumers.

The Energy Minister further said that the more solarization increases, the more burden will be on the common consumers. They are buying expensive electricity through net metering and giving it to the common consumers, and currently there is an additional burden of Rs 103 billion on the common consumers.

Owais Leghari further said that the government is trying to ensure that those investing in net metering recover their investment within 4 years and that ordinary consumers are not affected by this process.
