The Agents Plays Iron Maiden? Something like that, and although I’ve got nothing on Esa Pulliainen when it comes to guitar playing and as a singer, well, Topi Sorsakoski or Badding Somerjoki I am not, this version nevertheless comes from a place of absolute love for both bands.

I know I’ve tended to focus on Iron Maiden’s less than popular material for the most part but one day in late March I woke up this song playing in my head, although initially I envisioned it done in Neil Young & Crazy Horse style; more distortion, ramshackle rhythm section etc. But the computer drummer does not make mistakes and I’m not gonna start programming them in and it turns out my bass playing is too tight so I veered off into a slightly different direction.

Now, unless you’re Finnish, the Agents reference will most likely mean nothing to you and, truthfully, I didn’t set out to play The Evil That Men Do in their particular style. And it’s likely that this thing only sounds like The Agents in my head and everyone else is merely scratching theirs. Still, I enjoyed doing something with regular instruments, drums notwithstanding, and I made every attempt to play each guitar take and bass line all the way through, but I admit I had to comp the lead guitar track, which consists of three takes. The vocal is also comped from two takes but as always, there’s no editing, tuning or AI enhancement on this track.

The track art is yet another AI created image, though. I use them because they’re convenient but I do not think generative AI is necessarily a good thing.
