This is the first video in a new series where I’m telling the truth about addiction in my family.
My sister and I were both addicts. I’m sober today — and she’s still struggling.
We grew up in a home where addiction didn’t look the way people expect. No bottles on the holiday table. No obvious chaos at birthdays. But both of my parents worked nonstop, and our house slowly became the place everyone gathered to drink, use, escape, and numb out.
I never knew exactly when it became a problem for me — but I know how deeply I was drawn to anesthesia, pain pills, and that moment of slipping out of my body. I was terrified of going down the same road as my sister, and I made choices out of fear, survival, and love.
In this series, I’ll be talking about:
how addiction actually starts inside families
why some people get out and others get stuck
the unspoken patterns passed down through generations
what recovery looks like when it isn’t neat or heroic
This isn’t about blame.
It’s about understanding how addiction takes root — and what it really takes to heal.
