Born December 11, 1944, in Ohio, Garr's early fascination with dance led her to Hollywood, where she began her career as a dancer in musicals and Elvis Presley films before moving into acting. Her breakthrough role came in Young Frankenstein (1974), where her comedic brilliance as Inga, Dr. Frankenstein’s alluring assistant, captivated audiences and established her as a comedic powerhouse. This success was followed by her role in Tootsie (1982), which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and iconic performances in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Mr. Mom, and Oh, God!

Known for her portrayals of quirky yet endearing characters, Garr often balanced warmth with sharp humor, bringing complexity to roles that might otherwise have seemed lighthearted.
