With proper water changes, pH in LECA can often be ignored. But when the pH is off, it can cause nutrient lockout, and nutrient deficiencies. Ideal pH in LECA/Hydro is 5.5-6.0, but ideal pH in soil is 6.5-8.0. And each plant has a preferred pH.
