Remedsevir, A Trusted Remedy For Covid-19

The Ministry of Health has stated that they will continue administering a drug called remedsevir to patients who have mild symptoms of COVID-19 because the drug passed all three clinical trials. The ministry also stated that the solidarity trial was not designed to answer the question of whether the drug is safe or not.

In an exclusive interview with S24, Director of Infectious Disease’s hospital Professor Lloyd Mulenga says, in Zambia patients who were treated with the drug recovered quicker compared to those who were not.

He further emphasized that the drug is useful if administered early and not when a patient is critically ill. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has advised against the use of the drug for patients who are admitted to hospital, regardless of how severely ill they are because there is currently no evidence that it improves survival or reduces need for the use of ventilation.
