Attention: Someone named "szolekxxx" recently made a comment stating that you should not use 20wt oil for the damper side foam ring on a grip and grip 2 forks because it mixes with the 5wt oil. Concerned with this, I called up FOX and spoke to service to verify. FOX absolutely recommends using 20wt oil for this foam ring, as well as the air spring side foam ring. Not doing so will jeopardize the life of the fork. The 20wt oil is not only used to lubricate, but its other main purpose is to filter out contaminants. The 5wt oil will NOT filter out contaminants and will undoubtedly allow debris to enter the fork

The FOX recommended 20-wt and 5wt oils will NOT mix with each other, to a point of quick degradation. BUT, in order to maintain optimal performance and prolong the life of your fork, you should follow the recommended service intervals.

Please follow the manufacturer's recommendation on this.

This is a step by step full service guide video for fully servicing a 2019 FOX Rhythm Series 34 Float Grip damper Fork. I had uploaded the video last night, but a fellow youtuber pointed out an issue, so I went back to edited the video to add in some comments.

FOX recommends 5wt PTFE oil. In the Video, I use 5wt r3 oil (I ran out of PTFE and only had one more night to work on the bike before it had to go back). Technically, both oils will work just fine. In fact, some people use 2wt oil with the grip and grip 2 dampers for faster performance (I've never tried this). Even though I’m not entirely sold on PTFE oil, I do use it if I have it available and ultimately, fox recommends it now, so if you buy new oil, just buy the 5wt PTFE version per fox's recommendation.

Also, at 1:44:26 in the video, I say "turn the compression knob counterclockwise" even though I'm turning it clockwise. Turn it CLOCKWISE, as seen in the video, until it ends so you know your in the fully closed position before setting the compression knob

The video is a bit lengthy, my apologies for this, but my goal is to make this guide as easy as possible to follow for those all around the world who might be intimidated by performing this service.

The fork in this video is a 2019 version. Make sure to verify the damper version by year on your fork in order to unsure you purchase the appropriate damper service kit.

You can buy aftermarket versions that will cost you much less and work the same.
