#tank #military #ww2 The Panzerkampfwagen III (PzKpfw III), SdKfz 141 or Panzer III was a main battle tank developed in the 1930s by Germany and used during World War II. It was designed to fight against other tanks alongside the Panzerkampfwagen IV. The Panzer III soon became obsolete in its anti-tank role and was replaced by the Panzer IV with its high-velocity gun, but the Panzer III was still used as infantry support late in the war.
The Panzer III came into being in 1934 when the army's development department submitted drawings for a medium-heavy tank with a maximum weight of 24 tons and a top speed of 35 km/h according to Heinz Guderian's specifications. The tank was intended as the main weapon of the German armored divisions and would be able to knock out other tanks.

Daimler-Benz, Krupp, MAN and Rheinmetall built prototypes. Testing was carried out in 1936 and 1937 and Daimler-Benz's design was selected for production. The first Panzer III ausf A rolled off the assembly line in May 1937 and during the year a total of ten tanks were built, two of which were unarmed. Mass production of the tank started in 1939 then under the designation ausf III F. Between 1937 and 1940, attempts were made to standardize parts so that they could be used in both the Panzer III and the Panzer IV.
