How To Know If a Psychiatric Diagnosis is Valid

Описание к видео How To Know If a Psychiatric Diagnosis is Valid

The reason the diagnostic and statistically manual (DSM) is not a bible rests with the question of validity and reliability. Many of the diagnoses listed in the DSM are reliable, meaning that two doctors that see the same patient would check the same boxes for the diagnostic criteria and come to the same diagnostic conclusion (major depressive disorder for example). However, this does not necessarily make the diagnosis scientifically valid. The topic of today’s discussion is how do we prove that a mental health disorder is valid and scientifically proven as well as reliable.
