First off, I would like to say that this is my method of cleaning a fishing reel. There are other methods and I accept no responsibility for any damage you do to your reels in the process. There are many different ways to clean a reel and some methods are better than others. With that being said, these are the steps I take when cleaning a baitcaster. The process is similar with all reels and it all depends on which model you have as far as the teardown procedure.
