Freedom Quartet was formed by Stafford Hunter to perform a suite inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement and the widespread injustices in America. The quartet’s chordless, open sound utilizes harmonic freedom and exploration, evolving through composition and improvisation. Stafford Hunter, a multi-Grammy-nominated trombonist, seashells player, and occasional vocalist, has performed with Clark Terry, McCoy Tyner, Lenny Kravitz, Amy Winehouse, and many others. He was also a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra for 21 years and has released five CDs as a bandleader. Freedom Quartet's mission is to continually expand and explore new musical horizons.
