Weaving tartan for a kilt

Описание к видео Weaving tartan for a kilt

These are my weaving notes for weaving tartan for a kilt. I’m using 2/16 tartan yarn (wool) from CamillaValleyFarm on a 36” Leclerc model M counterbalance loom. These looms are quite sturdy and predate the Mira model which upgraded to a friction brake from the old prawl system.

Warp is set at 36 epi, 35” wide, and I’ve beamed 30’ of warp to weave 27’ and hopefully end up with 8 yards of finished cloth. I’ll update the notes once I’ve finished the cloth with the final width and length after shrinkage.

The largest challenge was getting the tension just right - as I had some threads break from being too tight, or from being too loose in the shed and then breaking when they would get hit by the shuttle.

I’m just recording on my phone, so the mic distorts and the loom sounds much louder than it is.
