Chromatic Chemistry: the Periodic Table in Light and Sound

Описание к видео Chromatic Chemistry: the Periodic Table in Light and Sound

What do the elements of the periodic table SOUND like? While it may seem like an absurd question, it is actually possible to convert the visible spectra of elements into sounds! When stimulated by electricity or heat, elements release distinct wavelengths of light depending on their electron energy levels—a sort of “chemical footprint” unique to every element. These frequencies of light, which we perceive as different colors, can be mapped to different sonic frequencies, allowing us to hear the different sounds of chemical elements. I've converted those frequencies into sounds, and appear as the character "Roy G. Biv" to present a fun and educational performance that combines the magic of chemistry with music. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some chemical chords, molecular melodies, and galvanized grooves accompanied by some fantastic visuals designed by myself and fellow Indiana University Chemistry student Harry Zhang.
