Nothing less than the future of Western society and the US are at stake in the fight against the encroaching ‘soft totalitarianism’ which “slowly but surely crushes” all individual freedoms, says writer Rod Dreher.

Mr Dreher has recently released his book ‘Live Not By Lies’ which has taken accounts from people who lived under Soviet totalitarianism who warn of the similarities emerging in the West.

“We’re not talking about gulags and secret police, this is going to be more, and is more, of a soft totalitarianism,” Mr Dreher told Sky News.

“Which is to say people are losing their jobs, are getting on the wrong side of the ‘woke’ if they’re accused of being racist or homophobic, and then they’re made pariahs in their own company or fired.

“What’s at stake is nothing less than the future of the country, about whether we’re going to live under a system that very slowly but surely crushes freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly.

“The greatest mistake we can make in the west, is to think it can’t happen here.”
