The washer method that we talked about in the last section is a great tool but it has its limitations. The biggest one is that, to use it to resolve something around the y-axis, we have to be able to solve the function that describes the boundary for x in terms of y which might not be possible, even in situations that look pretty straightforward. The Method of Cylindrical Shells, that we're going to derive here, will give us a way to get around that restriction.
