The current wave of flood has affected a population of 5,51,207, submerged 544 villages and submerged about 10 thousand hecters of land in Dhubri District.
According to the Daily Flood Report by the District Disaster Management Authority under Dhubri revenue circle 96 villages and a population of 2,07,014, have been affected by the ongoing flood. Similarly, under Gauripur, Golokganj, Agomoni, Chapar, Bilasipara, Athani and South Salmara Circle, number of villages affected by the ongoing flood are 68, 06, 25, 34, 39, 112 and 164 villages respectively.
One death has been reported due to flood on Tuesday. According to the administration is a 14-year-old girl, at village Nayahat Bilasipara area, who died due to drowning in the flood area, while bathing.
Meanwhile, the water from the rivers has already clogged the drains in Dhubri town and the water from the rivers has started entering inside the town by crossing the GTB, at various places. This has affected all the wards of under Dhubri Municipal Area, and hundreds of houses have been submerged. Many government offices, mainly the office of the District Election Officer and the Inspector of Schools have been is under the flood, few schools of the district have also been reported to have flooded.
However, the water level of Brahmaputra is on the rise. And has already damaged at least six roads and two bridges in the district.
It may be mentioned that the Brahmaputra has crossed its danger level and is flowing at 30.17 metres and the Gangadhar is flowing at 29.94 metres, when their danger level is at 28.68 metres and 29.94 metres, respectively.
Moreover, there are 1,688 inmates living in 21 relief camps of the district and hundreds have shifted to the highland areas mainly on the roadside of National Highway.
Talking to this correspondent many effected people avoiding to shift to the relief camps, due to the ongoing pandemic, fearing that if they shift they will be infected with Coronavirus.
