Feud in Lira Land Question

Lira residents have shown concerned about the functionality of Lira District Land Board. They say access to services from the office has stalled for nearly six months which is a denial of service delivery.

The Lira District chairperson Richard Cox Marks Okello was quick to blame the current crisis on Lira City and district feud.
Okello says this has resulted to a lot pressure from the citizens who need services from the land office.

In January this year the Lira City RCC caused the arrest of Lira district Land board secretary Francis Okello on intelligence that some people were planning to steal the files from the Lands office.
Francis Okello was arrested at night ferrying sacks of land documents although the district chairperson says the files were being transferred to the main office even with the aid of police officers.

In the recent past there have been a number of concerns over the disposal of public land by some District officials.
Lands in question are plot 41 on church road, Ireda Estate, Tipper stage, portions of mayor’s garden among others.
And in April last year 4 lira district officials were interdicted over irregular sale of public lands.
Also for the second time the secretary Lira district land board Francis Okello was arrested in may this year by the state house anti-Corruption unit leading to his interdiction also on land related charges.
But the district says they are being witch-hunted with intent of grabbing their assets within the city.

A section of NRM cadres now want national leaders to intervene in the conflict between Lira City council and Lira District.
