The SunShot Prize: Solar in Your Community Challenge (solarinyourcommunity.org) is a U.S. Department of Energy-sponsored prize competition that aims to expand solar electricity access to all Americans, especially under-served segments such as low- and moderate-income households, state, local, and tribal governments, and nonprofit organizations. Offering $5 million in cash prizes and technical assistance over 18 months, the Challenge supports teams across the country to develop projects or programs that expand solar access to under-served groups, while proving that these business models can be widely replicated and adopted by similar groups.

On this webinar, Shubha Jaishankar, a Department of Energy Program Support Specialist, provided an overview of the Solar in Your Community Challenge, its rules and goals, and discussed how public agencies and organizations can participate in the Challenge. Her presentation was followed by a Q&A with the audience.

This webinar was a presentation of CESA’s Sustainable Solar Education Project. This project, funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative, is helping state and municipal officials ensure distributed solar electricity is equitable and consumer friendly. The project will assist states and municipalities to improve consumer information, implement consumer protection measures, and find ways to make solar more accessible to low- and moderate-income households.
