Connective Tissue: Learn the Basics

Описание к видео Connective Tissue: Learn the Basics

Connective tissue is the most diverse and abundant of the tissue groups found virtually everywhere throughout the human body.

Cells of connective tissues are loosely spaced and embedded in an intercellular matrix. The matrix can be jelly like, fluid, dense or rigid depending on the function of connective tissues.
Blood has a liquid matrix called plasma, in which red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are suspended. Plasma contains proteins, salts and hormones. Blood flows and transport gases, food, waste and hormones to body parts.
Bone is strong and non-flexible connective tissue embedded in a hard matrix made up of calcium and phosphorous. it forms a framework to support the body and also anchors the muscles to support main body organs.
Ligament connects two bones but has little matrix. It is elastic with considerable strength. Tendons connects muscles to bones. Tendons have great strength but limited flexibility. Cartilage has widely spaced cells and is embedded in solid matrix composed of protein and sugar. Cartilage smoothens bone surfaces at the joints and is also presents in ear, nose, trachea and larynx.
Areolar tissue fills the space inside the organs and helps in repair of tissues. It is present in between skin and muscles, around blood vessels and nerve and in bone marrow.
Fat storing adipose tissue is present below the skin and between internal organs. Adipocytes are filled with fat globules and thus act as an insulator.

epithelial tissues, muscular tissues, and nervous tissues Will be dealt in another videos.
Blood: Blood is a highly specialized fluid connective tissue consisting of plasma, erythrocytes or red blood cells (RBC), leucocytes or white blood cells (WBC) and platelets. Blood is the main circulatory fluid that helps in the transport of various substances.
