Once we know how to "use our words," we need to learn to combine them in ways that will effectively engage our audience. In this lecture we look at the beginnings of rhetoric as a formal field of study in ancient Athens, consider the three branches of rhetoric as defined by Aristotle, and acquire some tools to use in developing our own rhetorical skills and assessing rhetoric used by others.
