Saul Leiter (1923–2013) was an American photographer and painter, best known for his distinctive approach to color street photography. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and moved to New York City in 1946 to pursue painting. However, he soon became involved in photography, particularly capturing the streets of New York.

Leiter's photography is characterized by its unique use of color, often employing muted tones and abstract compositions. He had a keen eye for capturing everyday moments and details in the urban environment, creating images that are both intimate and evocative.

Despite being relatively unknown for much of his career, Leiter's work gained recognition in the later years of his life, with exhibitions and publications bringing attention to his distinctive style. His photographs have been exhibited in major museums around the world and are highly regarded for their artistic and emotional depth.
