PhD Student and Senior Researcher Duncan MacDougall talks about life at Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit (CRRU).

Duncan joined CRRU as a team member in 2021, then returned in 2022 to undertake his MSc Project. Since then Duncan has become a core member of the research team. He commences a PhD with CRRU at the University of St. Andrew's in 2025, studying the movements and population structure of minke whales using the Moray Firth Marine Protected Area.

For over 30 years, CRRU has been marine conservation charity dedicated to the study, conservation and understanding of UK whales, dolphins and porpoises (cetaceans) in northeast Scotland through scientific research, environmental education and the provision of a voluntary veterinary rescue service for marine wildlife in distress.
